We love this infographic from Growing Happiness.
Your Best Critics identifies the four main types of comments you’ll come across when dealing with blog moderation but also goes further to identify who are your best critics and why not all comments are the same.
Blog moderation
A well-written, well-argued blog post that asks the reader a number of questions is likely to garner one or more of the better-quality reactions. And while having lots of comments may be nice for the ego, not all blog comments are the same. As Marlina from Growing Happiness points out:
Unless a post is particularly provocative, the reaction generally consists of a few variations of agreement or disagreement. It’s like being in a classroom discussion– after the 11th person has voiced his opinion, there’s nothing much left to say that has not already been said.
The best critics are the ones who take the time to further the argument, enriching your original post and keeping the conversation alive. While you’re moderating your blog, the off-topic comments can sometimes be the hardest to deal with, potentially leading everyone astray. But if it’s inoffensive and entertaining, there’s not really any reason to remove it during blog moderation — unless you suspect it has killed the conversation stone dead!
