 Crowdsourcing at its best #uksnow

This week has seen the first flutters of pre-Christmas snow we’ve seen here in the UK (well certainly down south) for many, many years. I discovered it was snowing in London well before the snow had reached us at W1 from the ‘flutterings’ on Twitter. Where else would be better to facilitate such a great British pastime as discussing the weather?

In what felt like a matter of minutes a whole system of tagging, postcodes and snow fall ratings had been swiftly readopted from February’s big snowfall by snow-hungry tweeters, along with the #uksnow Map that was at the very least hovering in the background of most of the PC screens I could see in our office.

Better than any TV weather forecast I’ve seen, and considerably more accurate, we could see minute by minute, the snow heading our way.

There’s more snowfall forecast for today and overnight tonight, and after last year’s fiasco I’m wondering whether I’ll be able to get into work tomorrow morning from deepest South London. I have a sneaking suspicion that I’ll be getting more accurate and up to date information from Twitter than I will from the TFL website. Come on , you’ve got a few hours to make a London Transport Map for us all – that should give you plenty of time.
