Is Facebook trying to stop competitions and promotions?

on Dec29

Some of you may have missed it over the Christmas Break but Facebook amended their Promotions Guidelines on the 22nd December and from now on it will be much tougher to run competitions and promotions of any kind on Facebook.

To understand what is changing and what that means check out what The iPlatform are saying here – in a nutshell you’re going to need to run any activity of this kind on a third-party app, adhere to local and Facebook guidelines, and work with a Facebook Account Manager to get your promotion approved – 7 DAYS BEFORE LAUNCH.

You can read the full set of guidelines at http://www.facebook.com/promotions_guidelines.php

Is the move an attempt to crack down on poorly run and illegal promotions on Facebook or part of a greater strategy to pull brands into having more of a commercial relationship with Facebook?
